When Kaifi Saheb returned to his village, he discovered that girls from Mijwan and surrounding villages had no access to education. In many pockets of rural India a girl of ten is already a surrogate mother to her younger siblings. Along with her mother she cooks and cleans and works in the fields. In a patriarchal society where a son is privileged over a daughter for sheer dint of being born male, the girl child is pigeonholed into looking after the home as the sole reason for her existence. This is no longer the case.
